Weekly Market Newsletter, 12/18/06

The Week Ahead: A flat consumer price index for November fueled a continuation of the rally in stocks. The Fed is likely to stay on hold in the near term for interest rates, but core inflation is still above there annual targets. Therefore, watch this week's PPI release on Tuesday as well as the housing starts for November. Wednesday's weekly crude oil & gasoline inventories will be watched closely in lieu of recent oil price increases. Thursday, the important 3rd quarter GDP comes out along with the November LEI. Finally, Friday's durable goods, personal income and spending, and the December consumer sentiment numbers are revealed.

Stocks to Watch: General Electric (GE) boosted its quarterly dividend propelling the stock higher. Monsanto (MON) received an upgrade by Goldman Sachs. Quicksilver (ZQK) received a strong buy rating after a positive earnings release. Watch Adobe Systems (ADBE) as it will ship its popular design programs on time. On the downside Black & Decker (BDK) warned its 4th quarter will be substantially below estimates. Tektronix (TEK) was downgraded on weak earnings. Two stocks Navistar (NAV) and American Italian Pasta (PLB) were notified of de-listing procedures on the NYSE and are potential short candidates.

Special Note: As the year comes to a close, it's interesting to note that a record 1350+ CEO's have stepped down which is more than all of last year. Although most of this is do to the backdating of stock options, there has also been a push for many company's to go private through private equity firms or otherwise. This is very uncharacteristic of a market that is readying for a long term up-trend and is more in line with a market inside of an ending or topping trend. Look for more short term upside into year-end followed by increased downside volatility as 2007 begins.

Weekly Market Newsletter, 12/11/06

This information is provided by NobleTrading.com, a worldwide brokerage firm, offering direct access services for online stocks, options, futures, commodities and forex trading on a variety of trading software platform.

The Week Ahead: Although more new jobs were added in November than forecasted, job growth is still below what is needed to off-set new employees entering the job market. Watch Tuesday's Fed meeting to determine if the economy is slowing enough to warrant interest rate cuts in the months ahead. Other days with reports to watch are Monday's wholesale trade numbers, Tuesday's trade deficit, Wednesday's retail sales and business inventories, Thursday's weekly jobless claims and import prices, and Friday's CPI, industrial production, and capacity utilization.

Stocks to Watch: McDonald's (MCD) enjoyed sales growth of 5.1% on higher margin products as the stock rises on waning upside momentum. Citigroup {C} has been rising on speculation the company may be broken up as analysts feel the parts are worth more than the whole. Verifone (Pay) continues to show solid earnings on worldwide growth numbers as its stock continues into all time high territory. Ingersoll Rand (IR) has broken through the 200 day moving average as its board approved a $2 billion buyback of its class A shares. Finally, Bank of America (BAC) may acquire Barclays Plc based on a Merrill Lynch report.

Special Note: The Dow Industrials are poised yet again for another break to new all time highs despite a deteriorating technical backdrop. Although fundamentals beneath most company's are currently stable, the earnings going forward will likely be impacted by such factors as a declining manufacturing sector especially construction jobs which recently fell sharply and falling productivity numbers. Stocks that have been strong all year may remain so as many investors defer selling until the new tax year. Continue to diversify portfolio positions.

Weekly Market Letter December 4

The Week Ahead: The economy continues to show signs of weakness as the ISM Manufacturing Index slipped under a key 50% level. Growth expectations for the 4th quarter is now near 2%. This week watch Monday's pending home sales, Tuesday's productivity and unit labor costs for the 3rd quarter as well as October's factory orders, Wednesday's weekly crude oil and gas inventories, Thursday's jobless claims, and finally Friday's all important November employment report.

Stocks to Watch: DirectV Group (DTV) is replacing the recently acquired Freescale Semiconductor (FSL) on the S&P 500 Index but looks to be tracing out an ending price pattern. Home Depot (HD) has been active and rising on takeover speculation by a private equity firm for a $100 billion dollar leveraged buyout but here too has had a sloppy trading pattern. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Nvidia Corp (NVDA) were subpoenaed for antitrust violations. Live Nation (LYV) an event promoter for concerts etc. had a price break out after a major brokerage started coverage.

Special Note: The recent dollar plunge has many worried that this hints of further economic weakness especially as it relates to foreign markets. Banks and retail stocks in general look weak as a result. Another area of concern is a Dow Theory non confirmation between the Industrials and Transports where the latter remains below its May 10 high. A scenario that often precedes a major price decline. Traders should remain cautious despite the seasonal bullish tendencies this time of year and spread risk proportionately in all asset classes.
